good things you should know ;)

Is The Vaccine Effective Enough ?

In most researches, the Gardasil was 100% effective in preventing pre-cancerous changes in the cervix caused by HPV types 16 and 18.  Gardasil was also shown to be nearly 100% effective in preventing vulvar and vaginal pre-cancers and genital warts caused by HPV types 6 and 11.

Cervarix was tested in girls not yet exposed to HPV types 16 and 18, it was 93% effective in preventing pre-cancerous changes in the cervix  caused by HPV types 16 and 18.

Both vaccines are less effective in young women who have already come in contact with the HPV types in the vaccine. However, if a young woman has been exposed only to one of the types, the vaccine still gives protection against the remaining types. So, even young women who have had sexual contact should get immunized.
**this is why younger females should go for the second and third shots after their first one

Do You Know ??

# HPV vaccine had reduced cervical cancer by 70%.

# HPV vaccines (Cervarix and Gardasil), which prevent infection with the HPV types (16 and 18) that cause 70% of cervical cancer, may lead to further decreases.

# Gardasil also protect HPV types 6 and 11, which cause 90% of genital warts

# The World Health Organization (WHO) position paper on HPV vaccination clearly outlines appropriate, cost-effective strategies for using HPV vaccine in public sector programs.

# In most countries they are approved only for female use, but are approved for male use in relevant countries like USA and UK. The vaccine does not have any therapeutic effect on existing HPV infections or cervical lesions.
This has been supported by Malaysian Health Minister, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai. She said that “The cabinet has accepted and approved the Health Ministry’s proposal to provide the HPV vaccine, which is 98 % effective in preventing cervical cancer for all Form One students.”

MOREOVER

U.S. statistics show there are 30 to 40 cervical cancer cases per , year per one million women between the ages of 9 and 26, which is the age bracket that Gardasil targets (and was tested on).

On the other hand, Gardasil was shown to reduce pre-cancers by 12.2% to 16.5% in the general population. So, instead of ending up with 30 to 40 cases of cancer per million, per year, in that age bracket, the HPV vaccine can potentially bring it down to 26 to 35 cases of cervical cancer.

It also says that in 90 percent of women infected, HPV clears up on its own within two years, at which point your cervical cells go back to normal. It is only when the HPV virus lingers for many years that these abnormal cells could turn into cancer.

so people , it's clear that HPV vaccines really helps women either preventing the disease or reducing it.

hopefuly, the info helps you !

reminder reminder ;D

Hello everybody ! (if you can see , we're waving at you :p)

Last time , we've talk a lot on how HPV vaccine is so related to cervical cancer among females.
However , I hope all of you didn't think that we're too focusing on cervical cancer in women or in other words , we're going far far away from our main idea - why people should go for HPV vaccine.

FYI, we have to write a lot about cervical cancer itself to make sure you can get the idea , you know , if we write so much about the vaccine itself , you as the readers might find it hard to understand as there's no example that you can imagine.

so on the next post, our sweetie Wada will help you on the advantages of HPV vaccination.

What the .... ? OMG, we should get vaccinated !

Just now, i'm informed that HPV may causes warts .
so i was like, wondering, how on earth does it looks like, what the heck it is ?
to answer my own questions, i search for the info on the internet.
and look what i found !!

**these pictures might be disturbing

 genital warts in vagina
genital warts in anus

note : HPV may cause the same thing to male genital area too !
find them yourself !

even though HPV doesn't have or present specific symptoms,
it can be said that genital warts are the common symptoms of the HPV infection.
clustered, cauliflower-like growth can affect the genital areas such as vagina, penis, anus and perineum area.

as for women, genital warts appear inside and outside of the vagina lips/thighs (as in the picture above).
they can also appear on the anal region, growing in and outside anus.

if you suspect that you have genital warts or may be infected with HPV, see your doctor.
because most cases of HPV go away on their own, treatment may or may not be recommended.

go for pap-smear to detect HPV
get vaccinated to PREVENT HPV.

thanks for reading this "euww-like" entry
care for your Miss "C"
go for HPV Vaccine

Cervical Cancer HPV Immunisation Programme: TV Advert

Introduction

In 1972, the association of the human papilloma viruses with skin cancer in epidermodysplasia verruciformis was proposed by Stefania Jablonska in Poland. In 1976 Haraldzur Hausen published the hypothesis that human papilloma virus plays an important role in the cause of cervical cancer. In 1978 Jablonska and Gerard Orth at the Pasteur Instistute discover HPV-5 in skin cancer. In 1983 and 1984, Hausen and his collaborators identified HPV 16 and 18.

A human papillomavirus (HPV) is a member of the papillomavirus family of viruses that is capable of infecting humans. Like all papillomaviruses, HPVs establish productive infections inly in the stratified epithelium of the skin of mucous membranes.

The majority of the nearly 200 known types of HPV cause no symptoms in most people, some types can cause warts(verrucae), while the other, in some cases may lead to cancer of the cervix, vulva, vagina, and anus in women or cancer of the anus and penis in men.

More than 30 to 40 types of HPV are typically transmitted through sexual contact and infect the anogenital region.  Some sexually transmitted HPV types may cause genital wart. Persistent infection with “high-risk” HPV may progress to precancerous lessiond and invasive cancer. HPV infection is a cause nearly all cases of cervical cancer, however, most infection with this types do not cause disease.

As we all know, one of the way to prevent this virus is by taking HPV vaccines. HPV vaccines (Cervarix and Gardasil), which prevent infection with the HPV types (16 and 18) that cause 70% of cervical cancer may lead to further decreases.
